Parenting Capacity Assessment

A Parenting Capacity Assessment (PCA) is a comprehensive evaluation that helps determine a parent’s ability to safely and effectively meet their child’s needs. Typically requested by courts or child welfare agencies, PCAs are used in situations where there are concerns about parenting and aim to support decisions that prioritize the best interests of the child.

The assessment process may include:

  • Interviews with the parent or caregiver

  • Observations of parent-child interactions

  • Review of relevant background documents and case records

Rather than assigning blame, the goal of a PCA is to provide an objective understanding of parenting strengths, areas of concern, and any supports or services that may benefit the family. The final report includes detailed findings and recommendations related to parenting, potential treatment needs, and in some cases, visitation or custody considerations.

Our evaluations are conducted with compassion, professionalism, and a child-centered focus.
